Corey Taylor Talks About Working With Dave Grohl

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor recently went into the recording studio with Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl and Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen. It's all part of a documentary revolving around the board from Sound City Studios, where Grohl recorded Nevermind with Nirvana, and Slipknot recorded Iowa. Stephen Pearcy and Warren DeMartini of Ratt also recorded with Grohl for the same project, which has no title or release date at this time.

Slipknot To Headline 2012 Mayhem Festival Tour

The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, the world’s largest touring heavy music festival, is back for its fifth year, with multi-platinum Iowa legends Slipknot headlining the main stage, with support from legendary thrash metal kings Slayer and a major special guest, to be announced on March 5th. The main stage will also feature a rotating lineup that includes The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria. The Jagermeister Stage will be headlined by Anthrax, with rotating support from The Devil Wears Prada, As I Lay Dying and Asking Alexandria, along with Whitechapel and High On Fire. (Bands may vary per market.)

Slipknot's Clown To Make Acting Debut

Slipknot's M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan will make his acting debut in the movie The Devil's Carnival. Said Crahan, "I am very honored to have been asked to be a part of this project. I play a character called The Tamer. And let me tell you, there is a little Tamer in all of us. It's always been a dream and a goal for me to try and act in something that is filmed besides music videos. I am very honored to have the opportunity to have worked with so many talented actors and people who are involved in making this production come to life."

Clown and Corey Taylor have also formed their own production company, Living Breathing Films, which they announced at the Sundance Film Festival in Colorado.

Corey Taylor Interviewed On Loudwire.com

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was recently interviewed on Loudwire.com, and he had a lot to say about the future of both bands, as well as other things.

Taylor has described plans to make Stone Sour's next studio release a "double concept album," and he went into some detail about themes when talking to Loudwire, saying, "It really is a mid-life crisis sort of thing. When you hit your mid-to-late 30s you can keep walking forward and embrace a new stage of your life and really become the man you are going to be or you can stand and stagnate and cling to the almost romantic angst of youth and really stop evolving at this point. It’s really kind of a problem a lot of men have. Actually a lot of women these days are having it too...The songs will, of course, be more ambiguous so everyone can relate to them."

Regarding Slipknot, he says, "I think [2012] will just be more of a strengthening year for us. [The 2010 death of bassist Paul Gray is] still very fresh for us, even though it’s been a year and a half since his death. It is still something that breaks me down every night. I just know if we try to rush in and make an album that doesn’t feel right, the audience will know. The audience will know that it doesn’t feel right and they’ll know it was forced and they’ll know it isn’t genuine. If anything we have always been as genuine with our audience as possible. That is why I have gone out of my way to say 'Look, I’m not ready to do it.'"

Members Of Slipknot And Korn Named Best 21st Century Guitarists By ArtistDirect.com

Korn guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer and Slipknot axemen Jim Root and Mick Thomson were singled out on ArtistDirect.com's list of "Six String Titans of the 21st Century."

The site's editors praised Munky for his work on Korn's latest album, The Path of Totality, saying, "Munky finds a way to make his classically distorted, dystopian riffs work seamlessly alongside a dubstep symphony. It shows true talent, as Korn reinvent themselves and rock music yet again."

Regarding Slipknot's guitar team, they had this to say: "Slipknot are one of the most inventive metal bands ever. Specifically, they have redefined the role of percussion in heavy music, with a cavalcade of drummers and percussionists on stage. That said, their riffs and guitar licks perfectly compliment and lead the vitriolic parade. Jim Root and Mick Thomson serve as the perfect conductors."

Jim Root Of Slipknot And Stone Sour Announces Signature Amps

Slipknot and Stone Sour guitarist Jim Root will be launching a signature amplifier at this year's NAMM conference in Los Angeles on January 21. The Signature #4 Jim Root Terror Head is modelled after the dirty channel on the same amp that Root plays in the studio and on the road: the Orange Rockerverb 100. This all-tube, 15-watt amp features a full 3-band EQ, allowing players to dial in vintage rock, blues or anything else, as well as a tube-driven FX loop which will allow the user to take the tone in any direction they want.

The new Signature #4 Jim Root PPC212 cab has been developed alongside the head to provide Jim's full tone. The cab is finished in black vinyl with a specially developed black version of the Orange basket grill cloth and proudly features the signature #4 plate on the front. With a closed back design, the cab has a tight bottom end and delivers Jim's signature Orange tone.

Said Root of the name on the signature head, "With this amp, simply giving it the number I use in Slipknot seemed logical. I've not been to apt to splash either band logo or artwork all over things, but this will be the beginning of the end of that… maybe." The rear of the amp features both the Slipknot and Stone Sour logos.

Last week, we posted a photo gallery from the November 30 benefit concert for DropInTheBucket.org, an organization that constructs water wells and sanitation systems at large rural schools in sub-Saharan Africa. Henry Rollins hosted the event, and an all-star band fronted by Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor and Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 played covers of songs by AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Van Halen and more.

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor was interviewed by Artisan News Service about his "An Evening With..." solo tour, which winds down this week. On the tour, Taylor has been reading from his book Seven Deadly Sins, performing acoustic versions of Slipknot and Stone Sour songs along with a variety of covers, and taking questions from the audience. He's made news by offering uncensored opinions on other music industry figures, including Scott Weiland and Rick Rubin, who produced Slipknot's Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses. On November 30, Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, along with Stone Sour drummer Roy Mayorga, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro and Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, among others, gathered to play classic hard rock and metal tunes as a benefit for Drop in the Bucket, an organization that constructs water wells and sanitation systems at large rural schools in sub-Saharan Africa. The show, which also featured comedy and DJ sets, was hosted by Henry Rollins.

Said Taylor, "In a time when money is suspect, and politics looks a lot like schoolyard bullying, people forget that there are far greater issues going on in the world. One of which is the fact that millions of people live without water on a daily basis when we as Americans treat it like used tissue paper. It's only common sense to think that if I can do something to not only help, but also raise awareness, then that's exactly what I'm going to do.

"Drop in the Bucket is one of the most important and selfless causes I have ever had the privilege to be a part of. And I can only hope that I do some good for it. And to be able to do that by putting on an awesome show with friends like Roy Mayorga, Scott Ian and John 5 just shows how good this business can be sometimes!"

Back in 2009, following the release of their most recent studio album, All Hope is Gone, three members of Slipknot - Corey Taylor, Chris Fehn and M. Shawn "Clown" Crahan - took part in meet and greet photo shoots with fans. Clown has been posting galleries from these events on his Facebook page, one a day for 21 days. Corey Taylor Visits Denver On Solo Tour

Corey Taylor was in Denver on Saturday night, a city he considers one of his "second homes," since he lived in nearby Lakewood, Colorado (and worked in a porn store there) before joining Slipknot. According to the Denver paper Westword, he joked with old friends and former roommates in the audience, in addition to reading from his book Seven Deadly Sins, taking questions from fans, and performing acoustic songs, as he's doing on every night of the tour.

Corey Taylor's solo acoustic tour kicked off yesterday, and Artisan News Service posted a video in which Taylor talks about what fans can expect from the shows. Each night, the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman will perform acoustic versions of some of his songs (and possibly some covers), read from his book Seven Deadly Sins, and take questions from the audience.
